ABILENE, Texas - Papa Dia scored 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the SMU men's basketball team to a 70-67 road win over McMurry University in Abilene, Texas at Kimbrell Arena.
Dia was one of four Mustangs to reach double-digits in scoring as Rodney Clinkscales (18 points), Ryan Harp (16 points) and Robert Nyakundi (13 points) assisted in the Mustang winning effort. Clinkscales finished 4-of-7 from behind the three-point arc and as a team, the Mustangs were a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Down early 15-2, SMU stormed back going on a 33-13 run to end the first half with a 35-28 lead. In the second half, McMurry hung tough cutting the Mustang lead to one point on two occasions. Freshman guard Jeremiah Samarrippas sunk two free throws in the final seconds to secure the SMU victory.
With the win, SMU improves to 6-4 on the year, while McMurry fell to 6-4. The Mustangs return home for a Wednesday, Dec. 22 game against Alabama State at Moody Coliseum. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here or calling the SMU ticket office at 214.768.4263.
