ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (SMU) – Senior thrower
Tochi Nlemchi led the Mustangs Saturday with a runner-up finish in the shot put on day two of the Cherry & Silver Invitational.
Nlemchi's toss of 50 feet, 10 inches (15.49m) was second to Texas' Elena Bruckner, who won the meet on her last throw of 51-07.75.
Senior
Holly Archer was the only Mustang to compete in the 800 meters as she finished fourth in a time of 2 minutes, 16.37 seconds. Arhcer's time after altitude conversion (2:15.61) puts her seventh on The American list. Freshmen
Hannah Miller and
Charlotte-Tara Murphy paced SMU in the mile placing fifth (5:01.3; 4:54.47 altitude adjusted) and sixth (5:01.63; 4:55.06 altitude adjusted), respectively, which ranks 1-2 in The American.
In the sprints, freshmen
Alexis Center and
Chelsea Francis competed in the 60 meters semifinal heat. Center advanced to final after finishing third in a time of 7.58 seconds (7.60 altitude adjusted), while Francis just missed making the final with a time of 7.62 (7.64 altitude adjusted). Center did not compete in the final.
Freshman
India Simmons finished second in her heat of the 400 meters with a time of 58.49 (58.60 altitude adjusted).
The Mustangs return to action next week at the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman, Oklahoma on Jan. 27-28. SMU placed third at last year's invitational after finishing second in 2015.
