DENTON, Texas (SMU) - Senior McKenzie Adams joined the 1,000-point club at SMU by leading all scorers with 15 points, but the Mustangs (3-5) could not overcome a difficult day on the offensive end of the court on Wednesday afternoon, falling at North Texas (5-1), 47-40.

Adams now sits at 1,004 points scored in her Mustang career and is the 24th SMU player to reach the 1,000-point milestone. The Frisco, Texas, native has reached double-figures in seven of eight games this season.

SMU's defense played well throughout the contest and allowed the Mustangs to hang around despite shooting just 29 percent from the field. SMU held the Mean Green to its lowest point total of the season and below 20 percent from 3-point range.

The Mustangs finished plus-10 on the glass and collected 13 offensive rebounds, but turnovers coupled with shots not falling hampered SMU on the offensive end. SMU finished with 24 turnovers that led to 17 North Texas points. The turnovers allowed the Mean Green to get up 11 more shots from the field than SMU in a game where both teams were struggling to get shots to go.

Junior Dai'ja Thomas and senior Stephanie Collins were a big reason for SMU's rebound advantage, each grabbing 10 rebounds for the Mustangs. It was a season-high for Collins, while Thomas has reached double-digit rebounds in four games this year.

With the three-game road trip now concluded, the Mustangs are back home at Moody Coliseum on Sunday against CSU Bakersfield at 2 p.m.
