TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (SMU) – In a game that featured 15 lead changes, a big 21-point third quarter for Alabama proved to be the difference, as the Crimson Tide went on a 59-44 victory on Sunday afternoon against SMU.
SMU was led by senior
Kiara Perry, who posted a double-double with 10 rebounds to go along with her team-high 12 points. It was the second time this season and the sixth time in her career where Perry posted a double-double. Fellow senior
McKenzie Adams scored 11 to join Perry in double-figures.
The teams went into halftime tied, with SMU leading for the majority of the first half. However, Alabama finished the third quarter on a 13-2 run, and SMU was never able to close the gap in the fourth.
SMU held Alabama to just 25 percent shooting from the field, including just 16 percent from 3-point range. A large chunk of Alabama's production came from free throws, with 23 points coming at the line. In the first half, Alabama only managed to make five baskets.Â
While the Mustangs consistently got stops on the defensive end, the struggles on offense were the difference in the game. SMU finished the game shooting 23 percent from the field and 13 percent from 3. On top of the shooting issues, the Mustangs turned the ball over 17 times.
The Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum on December 20 to face Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m.
