DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team has announced its schedule for the 2017 season. The 18-game slate is highlighted by 12 home matches at Westcott Field, and five opponents that made the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
"This is an exciting, challenging and difficult schedule," SMU head coach
Chris Petrucelli said. "We'll be tested in many different ways by numerous quality opponents in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Hopefully that will prepare us well for an always demanding AAC season. The schedule is set up to test our team against quality competition as we look towards continuing to progress the program."
The Mustangs open the 2017 campaign at home against Arkansas on Saturday, Aug. 18, before hosting Oklahoma on Aug. 20.
Following a trip to the Pacific Northwest to take on Gonzaga (Aug. 24) and Washington (Aug. 27), SMU opens a four-game homestand, running Aug. 31 through Sept. 17. The Mustangs welcome Sam Houston State, Indiana, TCU and Baylor during the stretch. SMU will host New Mexico State in its final non-conference tilt of the season on Sept. 29.
The Mustangs open American Athletic Conference play on the road at Memphis, Thursday, Sept. 21, before heading to Tulsa (Sept. 24). SMU will host USF (Oct. 5) and UCF (Oct. 8), before heading to Connecticut (Oct. 12) and Temple (Oct. 15). The Mustangs cap off the regular season with a three-game homestand featuring contests versus East Carolina, Cincinnati and Houston.
The American Athletic Conference Championship takes place Nov. 1-5 with the location to be determined.
SMU will hold play in two scrimmages. The first at Westcott Field on Aug. 7, before heading to Los Angeles to play Loyola Marymount on Aug. 12.
