SMU Announces 2017-18 Women's Basketball Schedule

Sep 13

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball team announced its 2017-18 schedule, which begins at home Nov. 10. The Mustangs host DFW Metroplex rival TCU on Nov. 14, and the regular-season home slate concludes Feb. 24 against NCAA national semifinalist Connecticut.

SMU plays 13 non-conference games, featuring road trips at Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Alabama. The Mustangs also play Metroplex games at UT Arlington and North Texas, and two games in a Thanksgiving tournament at Nevada.

The Mustangs begin the 16-game American Athletic Conference schedule Dec. 30 at home against Houston.  SMU also hosts conference games against UCF, ECU, Cincinnati, Temple, Tulsa and conference newcomer Wichita State in Moody Coliseum before Connecticut comes to Dallas Feb. 24.

Conference road games include matchups at Temple, Wichita State, UCF, Houston, ECU, Memphis, USF and the regular-season finale at Tulane Feb. 26. The conference tournament is scheduled for March 3-6 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Head coach Travis Mays enters his second season on the Hilltop after leading the Mustangs to a 19-15 record last season. SMU also returned to the postseason, winning two games to advance to the round of 16 in the WNIT.

SMU returns four of five starters, including all-conference honoree Alicia Froling. The Australian led the Mustangs with 14.3 points and a league-best 10.0 rebounds, and was the only player in the conference to average a double-double. Froling set a program record with 17 double-doubles during her junior season.

McKenzie Adams averaged 12.2 points per game a year after leading the Mustangs in scoring with 13.4 points per game as a sophomore. Kiara Perry led the team with 58 steals and was tied for the team lead with 84 assists. Stephanie Collins started 19 games, and led the Mustangs with a 52.0 shooting percentage.

The Mustangs also set a program record with 187 blocks. Froling recorded 51, while Dai'ja Thomas denied 40 shot attempts. Stephanie Collins and Klara Bradshaw each cleared 30 blocks, and all four will be suited up for the Mustangs during the 2017-18 campaign.
