Francis Wins 100m Dash To Conclude Bobcat Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas (SMU) – The Mustangs wrapped up the Bobcat Classic on Saturday behind two dominant sprint performances from Chelsea Francis. The sophomore took first in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash in the Mustangs' final meet before the conference championships May 11-13.

Francis found the 100-meter finish line in 11.22 ( 2.3 mps) to earn her second top finish of outdoors season. The mark ties for 17^th in the NCAA, and she joins teammate Latessa Johnson, who finished second in 11.25 ( 2.3 mps), atop the American Conference performance list.

Francis earned second place in the 200-meter dash not long after, finishing in 23.04 ( 2.3 mps).

After leading the Mustangs with a second-place finish in the hammer throw on Friday, Tochi Nlemchi earned her third shot put title of the season with a mark of 16.49m. Nlemchi also finished second in the morning's discus event with a PR mark of 48.27m.

Hannah Miller tallied SMU's third and final event win of the day with her 1,500-meter finish. Miller finished in 4:28.40 to take her fifth win of the season. The Mustangs outpaced the competition in both sections of the 1,500-meter, with all six SMU runners finishing in the top 11 of the event.

Madison Pyle moved up in the program record books, running the 400-meter in 56.04 for the 9^th-best time in school history.

In field events, Atipa Mabonga found a season-best mark in the triple jump for the second consecutive week. The freshman took third with a jump of 12.50m. Cassie Ackemann nearly missed the high jump title, finishing second after clearing 1.70m.
