Compliance Message

Photo of fans Ford StadiumWe appreciate your tremendous support of SMU Athletics! You are an essential part of the athletics program. As such, it is important that we educate you on the NCAA rules concerning boosters.

Boosters are individuals that:
  • Participate in or have been members of the Mustang Club;
  • Have made financial contributions to any SMU athletics program;
  • Aid or have assisted in the recruitment of prospects;
  • Provide or have helped arrange employment for enrolled student-athletes;
  • Participated as a varsity student-athlete at SMU; or
  • Have been involved in promoting SMU Athletics in any other way.

A booster is prohibited from making any recruiting contacts with a prospect, his or her family members, or friends. Please notify our coaches about prospects that may be strong additions to the SMU Athletics program.

Boosters should also refrain from providing an inducement or extra benefit to a prospect or current student-athlete, their family members or friends. The receipt of an extra benefit jeopardizes the integrity of SMU Athletics and the eligibility of a recruit or student-athlete. An extra benefit may include but is not limited to:
  • Cash, loans or gifts of money;
  • Providing suite access at SMU football and basketball games;
  • Purchasing meals or services at commercial establishments; and
  • Providing a car or transportation.

We know how much you care about the program and that you want to avoid any situation that may impair the success of the athletics department or our programs. The NCAA holds the University responsible for the conduct of all boosters. If you have any questions please contact the SMU Athletics Compliance Office at athleticcompliance@smu.edu or (214) 768-4652. Thank you again for your continued support and cooperation. Pony Up!
