MILWAUKEE (SMU) – Taylor Johnson and Drew Morris advanced to the doubles semifinals, with Johnson also advancing to the singles semifinal at the ITA Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Saturday at the Milwaukee Country Club.

"The Milwaukee classic is a special tournament and it was great to be a part of it," head coach Jeff Nevolo said. "Drew and Taylor did a great job in a very competitive field.

Johnson and Morris competed through the tournament, going all the way to Saturday's doubles semifinals, defeating Wisconsin's Taylor Cataldi and Rosie Garcia Gross 7-6(5) in the round of 16. They also defeated Maryland's No. 38 Mary Brumfield and Selma Cadar 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

They were bested only by USC's Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper who went on to fall to Natasha Puehse and Santa Strombacha from Grand Canyon in the finals. 

In singles, Morris went 2-2, beating Oklahoma's Zdena Safarova (2-6, 6-2) and in the SW-Semifinals over Virginia's Marget Navarro (6-1, 6-3), while falling to another from Virginia and one from Stanford.

Johnson followed with wins of her own over Brown's Vivian Miller (6-3, 6-4) and Strombacha (6-4, 4-6, 12-10) in singles play.

Competition for SMU women's tennis continues with play in the Baylor Invitational the weekend of Sept. 29 in Waco, Texas. Morris, Johnson and Lana Mavor will also compete in the ITA All-American Championship in Cary, North Carolina, the same weekend as the Baylor Invitational.
