SMU Sweeps Wichita State In Second Home Match

DALLAS (SMU) — In SMU women's tennis second home match of the spring season, the Mustangs swept American Athletic Conference foe Wichita State, 4-0.

This marked SMU's second consecutive sweep, with the Mustangs coming off of a 4-0 win over UTA on the road.

On Friday, the Mustangs won five of six matches finished at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.

Drew Morris and Hadley Doyle paired to take down Wichita State's Theodora Chantava and Giorgia Roselli, 6-3, for the first win of the day.

Court one saw No. 57 Taylor Johnson and Lana Mavor clinch the doubles point for the Mustangs, beating Xin Tong Wang and Natsumi Kurahashi — 7-5.

In singles competition, Doyle, Mavor and freshman Caroline McGinley all earned their singles wins in two sets.

2023 AAC Player of the Year Doyle earned her fourth win of the year. The Colleyville native defeated Kristina Kudryavtseva, (6-4, 6-4).

Mavor also defeated Knuettel in singles play — 6-3, 7-5.

The clinching match took place on court six, with McGinley defeating Wichita State's Giorgia Roselli, (7-6, 6-4).
