LUBBOCK, Texas (SMU) – Led by sophomore
Chelsea Francis' win the 60m dash finals, SMU Track and Field wrapped up the Texas Tech Raider Invitational on Friday with top finishes from team sprinters.
Francis followed her second-place finish in the 60m dash at last weekend's Arkansas Invitational with first-place finishes in both the first round (7.39) and finals (7.34).
Alexis Center and
Latessa Johnson also competed in the 60m, finishing tenth (7.62) and eleventh (7.67) in the first round, respectively.
The trio's success continued in the 200m dash with all three finishing in the top ten. Johnson took second with a time of 23.67, Francis finished seventh with a time of 24.12 and Center took ninth with 24.50.
SMU also impressed in the 4x400. The relay team, comprised of
Latessa Johnson,
Madison Pyle,
Anna Novosadova and
Alexis Center, finished with a 3:47.82 mark to place third.
Freshman
Cassie Ackemann continued her success from week one in the high jump. After placing second in the event at the Arkansas Invitational, Ackemann cleared the 1.73 mark to earn third on Friday.
A handful of Mustang distance runners will compete tomorrow at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning with the one mile run at 2:20 p.m. Live results can be found at http://www.cfpitiming.com/liveresults/2018_Indoor/Vandy_Invite_2018/.
