Tyson Invitational Meet Results | Music City Challenge Meet Results
NASHVILLE, Tenn., and FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The SMU track and field team picked up personal records in multiple events at this weekend's Tyson Invitational and Music City Challenge, including junior
Latessa Johnson's SMU record-breaking performance in the 200m dash.
Johnson raced a 23.29 in the 200m dash invitational at the Tyson Invitational, breaking the SMU record of 23.48 that she set in 2016.
Chelsea Francis, the only other Mustang to attend the Fayetteville meet, finished 10
th in the 200m with a personal best time of 23.77. The sophomore also set a PR in the 60m dash with a time of 7.30, replacing her previous mark of 7.34 as the second-best time in school history.
There was no shortage of personal record-breaking performances at the Music City Challenge either, with many Mustang underclassmen establishing themselves in indoor events.
In field events, freshman
Atipa Mabonga delivered an impressive triple jump performance. Mabonga finished seventh with her 12.40m jump. Senior
Anna Novosadova set a personal best in the long jump with a 5.59m mark.
Sophomore
Hannah Miller continued her impressive spring season campaign with a fourth place finish in the 5000m (16:26.76) and a sixth-place finish in the mile. Her 4:45.01 mile time gives her a new PR and the second-best time in SMU history.
Freshman
Tess Misgen and junior
Madison Pyle added to the record books in the 800m. Misgen finished 19
th with a time of 2:12.33 while Pyle finished 22
nd with a time of 2:13.16. The marks give Misgen and Pyle personal bests and the sixth- and seventh-best 800m indoor times in school history. Misgen also finished 16
th in the mile with a PR of 4:54.31.
In the 3000m, junior
Anneke Grogan led the Mustangs with a mark of 9:58.91 to finish 17
th. Sophomore
Alison Esparza followed with a time of 10:06.20. Both marks were PRs. In the 5000m,
Robin Montemayor set a PR with a mark of 18:41.19.
The Mustangs return for the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on Feb. 23-24 in Birmingham, Alabama.
