SMU's volleyball hits the road for the first time this season. The Mustangs travel to Wichita State for two matches this weekend. The action gets underway on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. The two teams will then rematch on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
SERIES HISTORY
SMU and Wichita State have faced off a total of nine times in program history. The Mustangs have won the past four meetings against the Shockers, which includes taking both games against the conference opponent a year ago. In the last meeting, SMU was victorious 3-1 in Charles Koch Arena on November 18
th, 2019. Â Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Mustangs dropped a pair of conference games against Houston last week. SMU fell 3-0 on Thursday, but battled all the way to the end in Friday's match. The Mustangs who were without two starters due to Covid-19 protocols, dropped the first two sets before rallying to win the third and the fourth set. In the fifth, there were 16 ties, eight lead changes, and nine potential match points available in the set.

A LOOK AT THE OPPONENT
Wichita State is undefeated heading into this matchup with the Mustangs. The Shockers have tallied wins against South Dakota, Oral Roberts, Missouri State, North Texas, and most recently Tulsa. Wichita State and SMU have not played a common opponent yet, because the Mustangs' competition with North Texas was canceled at the beginning of the season. The Shockers defensively have been solid, as they lead the American Athletic Conference in opponent hitting percentage (.119), kills by opponent (10.92), and assists by opponent (9.92). Kayce Litzau is the conference leader with 12 aces (0.48 per set).Â
