Kenny Perry

Kenny Perry was named SMU's special teams coordinator in June of 2021. Perry has worked with the Mustangs for two seasons as a special teams quality control analyst.

Perry helped mentor 2020 American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year and Lou Groza Award Semifinalist Chris Naggar. Naggar played in all 10 games for the Mustangs and connected on 17-of-21 field goals (81%, 1st AAC) and 43-of-46 PATs. He registered 46 touchbacks on 69 kickoffs for 4,314 yards.

Naggar ranked 19th nationally and led the conference in total points scored at 94. His 17 field goals tied for fifth in a season at SMU, one off the SMU single-season record of 18. Naggar hit game-winning field goals to keep the Mustangs undefeated against No. 25/24 Memphis and Tulane.

Perry also spent two seasons as an assistant coach and special teams coordinator with the Dallas Renegades in the XFL.

Perry arrived on the Hilltop after four seasons at Kansas. He joined the staff as Co-Defensive Coordinator and Cornerbacks coach in 2015 and served as special teams and recruiting coordinator in 2018.

Prior to his time in Lawrence, Perry spent two seasons at TCU, working with cornerbacks in 2014. The Horned Frogs went 12-1, won a share of the Big 12 title and defeated No. 9 Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl. Perry mentored second-team Freshman All-American Ranthony Texada and second-team All-Big 12 honoree Kevin White.

In 2013, Perry served as TCU's director of high school relations and recruiting.

Perry was as a coach in the high school ranks from 1992-2012, serving as head coach at Sam Houston (2000-03), Haltom City (2004-05) and Arlington Bowie (2006-12). While at Bowie, Perry compiled a 67-22 record and made an appearance in the 5-A Playoffs each season.

A three-time District Coach of the Year, Perry was also named the 2007 Dallas Morning News Coach of the Year and was a six-time selection as the Dallas Cowboys Coach of the Week. In 2010, he was selected to the Board of Directors for the Texas High School Coaches Association and has also been the director of the North Texas High School Football Association.

Perry graduated from Houston in 1993 and was a four-year letterwinner for the Cougars (1988-91). He went on to serve as a graduate assistant at UH from 1992-94, working with special teams and defensive backs.
