First Look

The SMU football lockerroom is one of the nicest Division-I lockerrooms in all of college football.

It underwent a near $3 million upgrade in the summer of 2011 and was upgraded again prior to the 2015 season, with changes including the creation of a new team lounge, updated graphics and audio/visual equipment. Other renovations have included a new team meeting room with stadium-style seating as well as renovated positional meeting rooms.

Walter Umphrey, a former SMU student and Beaumont attorney, donated $1 million to the efforts in honor of his former Mustang teammate Garry Weber. SMU alumnus and Austin businessman John Gorman and an anonymous Houston-based donor each gifted $500,000 for the project, and the remaining balance of the $2.7 million was from various donors.

Plenty of space is available in the lockers to keep the athletes' equipment. Space is available for their custom-fitted pads and helmets. The Mustang football players also keep their wide assortment of workout clothing in the lockers.

Each locker has a built-in storage area for the player's numerous pairs of playing and workout shoes. There are individual lock boxes for valuables and a built-in cabinet located at the bottom of each locker, as well as personalized plates to i.d. each player's individual locker.

Adjacent to the locker room is SMU's 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art strength and conditioning center and the new equipment room.
