Harvey Armstrong was a defensive lineman at SMU from 1978-1981, earning all-SWC recognition during his junior and senior seasons. Armstrong was a co-captain and a key player on a Mustang squad that went 10-1 SWC title (the program's first in 16 years) and a nationally-recognized national championship in 1981. For his efforts, Armstrong was named to the American Football Coaches Association All-American team that season, and also participated in the Japan Bowl and the Hula Bowl. In 1980, Armstrong led a defense that helped SMU earn an 8-4 record and the school's first national ranking (20th) since 1968. Armstrong was drafted in the seventh round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, and played eight seasons in the NFL, first with the Eagles and later with the Indianapolis Colts. Armstrong totaled 13 sacks and one interception in his NFL career. HOF SMU class of 2014.
