Rich Saeger was an Olympic gold medalist, a 16-time All-American and 3-time Southwest Conference individual champion swimmer from 1982-86. Following his sophomore season, he made the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team and helped the 4 x 200 free Relay win a Gold Medal at the Los Angeles Games. In 1983, he won a Gold Medal in the 4 x 200 Relay at The Pan American Games and in 1982 won a Gold Medal in the 4 x 200 Relay at The World Championships in Ecuador. The Mustangs finished in the top 7 in the team standings at the NCAA championships each of his 4 years including a Runner-up finish in 1983. His collegiate career included 3 individual Southwest Conference Titles and a runner-up finish in the 200 free at NCAA’s his freshman year. He claimed 6 individual All-American awards and collected 10 more Relay honors throughout his career at SMU.Â
