U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Ted McLaughlin was the men's track and field coach at SMU from 1980-88, leading the Mustangs to three NCAA Championships. His team took both the indoor and outdoor titles in 1983 and the outdoor championship in 1986. During his tenure at SMU, he coached 23 individual national championships and three Olympic medalists, including fellow 2014 inductee Keith Connor, as well as Russell Carter (2013 inductee) and Michael Carter (2010). Along with Connor and Michael Carter, former Mustang and McLaughlin-coached Kevin Robinzine helped the USA win the 1988 4x400 meter relay gold medal. Prior to their first national title in 1983, SMU took second place at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA championships in 1981. McLaughlin was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006. HOF SMU class of 2014.
