DALLAS (SMU) -- The fifth-ranked SMU men's soccer team continued its winning ways with a 5-1 victory over Tulsa Saturday night at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU. With the win, SMU improves to 13-1-2 overall and remains undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference play at 6-0-1. Tulsa falls to 9-7 overall (3-4 MVC).
Senior midfielder Diego Walsh collected his second hat trick of the season (third of his career).
The Mustangs took charge right from the opening whistle and went on the offensive attack at all possible opportunities. Freshman Colin Clark started the SMU scoring when he one-timed a cross from J.D. Johnston at the 13:09 mark. Walsh scored his 12th goal of the season at the 16:31 mark off a rebounded shot in front of the Golden Hurricane goal. Senior Kevin Friedland gave SMU a 3-0 lead with a shot off a long free kick from Johnston at 21:26. In the second half, Walsh scored two goals in a span of nearly two minutes to give SMU a 5-0 lead. Tulsa spoiled SMU's bid for a shutout when Bryan Rudd scored his first goal of the season with a shot off a rebound at the 65:27 mark.
The Mustangs wrap up the regular season with two conference road games next weekend (at Drake on 11/1 at 7:00 p.m. and at Creighton on 11/3 at 1:00 p.m.).
