Two SMU Football Players Sign Free Agent NFL Deals

Dallas, Texas -- Two former SMU football players agreed to free agent deals with NFL teams this week. Defensive end Kevin Aldridge signed with the Tennessee Titans while offensive tackle Joey Slaten inked with the Dallas Cowboys.

Aldridge earned first team All-Western Athletic Conference honors last year after finishing second on the team with 74 tackles and 12 stops for loss. He led the SMU with seven sacks.

Slaten was a three-year starter for the Mustangs and earned honorable mention All-WAC honors last season. He started 28 times at SMU, including the final 23 games of his career. The best game of his senior season came in the season finale at North Carolina when he went head-to-head with Lombardi Award Winner Julius Peppers, the No. 2 overall selection in last weekend's NFL Draft, and did not allow a sack.

Both players will take part in their respective teams' mini-camps that begin this weekend.
