ANN ARBOR, Mich. (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team posted an impressive second-place finish at the Wolverine Invitational at the UM Golf Course this weekend, finishing just three shots behind champion and host Michigan. SMU had four golfers finish in the top seven individually.
SMU carded a team total of 908 for the 54-hole event, paced by Laura Cross who finished third in the individual standings. The Waxahachie native posted rounds of 72, 78 and 74 to finish at 8-over 224, five shots behind champion Katie Stepanek of Maryland.
SMU's Jennifer Ackerson (71-77-79-227) and Kristina Rothengatter (76-78-73-227) finished tied for fourth individually, while Lacey Jones (73-78-79-230) took seventh. Ashley Deatherage (82-84-84-250) tied for 31st and freshman Kate Ackerson (83-87-81-251) was 34th.
SMU returns to the course October 10-11 at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invite in Wichita, Kansas.
