DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's volleyball team pushed its winning streak to four games on Sunday afternoon with a dominating 3-0 win (30-24, 30-19, 30-19) over Memphis at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs (10-11, 6-3 C-USA) are now 9-1 overall in home contests in 2005 and have won their last six matches at Moody. Rachel Giubilato hit .312 and recorded the only SMU double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Natalie Peters was also a force, notching 10 kills, four blocks and an ace. Peters has 28 solo blocks on the season, tied for the most all-time in SMU single-season history.
Stephanie Bennett had another strong performance in the middle for SMU registering seven blocks and hitting .429 with six kills. Caitlin Rainbird totaled seven kills, 12 digs, three blocks and added an ace, while Ashley Zener had five kills and three blocks in the win.
Stefanie Kons led SMU in assists with 31 and added seven digs and an ace. Jenny Reyes had another solid serving day with two aces and chipped in with seven digs. Jennette Evanco led the Mustangs in digs with 19 and also totaled two aces.
The Mustangs were able to jump out to early leads in each game and forced the Tigers to play catch-up all afternoon. Game No. 3 was close in the beginning as the teams were tied four times and exchanged the lead on five occasions. SMU grabbed the lead for good at 8-7 and pulled away for the three-game sweep.
The SMU volleyball team returns to the next court next weekend when it heads east to take on East Carolina on Friday and Marshall on Sunday.
