DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU volleyball team dropped its senior day match to Houston on Sunday 3-0 (30-18, 30-27, 30-19) in front of a large and enthusiastic FCA crowd. Member from various FCA chapters helped fill Moody Coliseum and stayed afterwards to ask questions to head coach Lisa Seifert and various players. In game action, Rachel Giubilato paced the Mustangs (11-14, 7-6 C-USA) with her 18th double-double of the season, recording 11 kills and 10 digs in the loss.
Prior to the match, seniors Stephanie Bennett, Kelly Larkan and Ashley Zener were honored, playing their last match in Moody Coliseum. They were accompanied by their parents and received flowers and a framed action photo of themselves - a gift from the coaching staff. All three had solid performances on the day with Larkan leading the way with seven kills and 11digs. Bennett tallied three kills and a dig, while Zener notched six kills and a block.
Natalie Peters continues to climb the all-time SMU blocks list during her freshman campaign, adding five total blocks on Sunday to go along with nine kills. Peters now has 33 solo blocks on the year, the most in SMU single-season history and fifth-best total all-time. Her 129 total blocks are the second-best single-season total ever. Madison Hill led SMU with 22 assists and had six digs, while Stefanie Kons also saw time at setter, recording 11 assists in three digs.
The SMU volleyball team returns to action next weekend, closing out the regular season with matches against UTEP and Tulane on the road.
