EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Miguel Ayala scored 25 points as UTEP beat SMU 57-53 Saturday night to remain undefeated in conference play.

John Tofi followed Ayala with 13 points, and Edgar Moreno finished the game with 9 points and 8 assists for UTEP (12-5, 5-0 Conference USA).

SMU (10-8, 2-3) was led in scoring by Bryan Hopkins with 21 points. Dez Willingham scored 9 for the Mustangs.

SMU led the Miners 25-22 at halftime.
