Men's Basketball Faces Houston Feb. 11 at 7pm

The SMU Mustangs (11-10, 3-5 C-USA) and the Houston Cougars (15-6, 5-3 C-USA) renew their conference rivalry at the Hofheinz Pavilion on Saturday Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. The Mustangs trail the all-time series 33-22, but have won the last three meetings. The teams have met just twice since the end of the Southwest Conference with the Ponies winning 94-80 at Houiston on Nov. 27, 1999, and handling the Cougars 94-69 in Dallas on Dec. 17, 2000. The schools met three times in the final year of the SWC; SMU lost 63-62 and 62-59 during the season before winning 62-57 in the first round of the SWC tournament at Reunion Arena in Dallas.

LAST GAME: DALLAS (AP) - Charles Ramsdell scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, to help lead Tulsa to a 55-51 win over SMU on Wednesday night. Darold Crow added 11 points and Anthony Price had 11 rebounds for the Golden Hurricane (8-13, 3-5 Conference USA). SMU, trailing by eight with just under two minutes to play, scored six straight points to come to within two with 37 seconds remaining. The Mustangs were forced to foul Chris Wallace, who made both free throw shots with 15 seconds left. Devon Pearson scored a quick layup with one second remaining, but the Mustangs were forced to foul Wallace before Tulsa's inbound pass. Wallace hit both free throws to seal the win, which snapped a four-game losing streak for the Golden Hurricane. Donatas Rackauskas led the Mustangs (11-10, 3-5) with 12 points, half of them on free throws. Bryan Hopkins added 11 points and matched Derrick Roberts with a team-high seven rebounds. HEAD COACH Jimmy Tubbs...is in his second season as the head coach of the Mustangs and has a 25-24 record. The Ponies were 14-14 in his inaugural campaign. The team finished 9-9 in conference action and improved in every statistical category highlighted by finishing 48th in the nation at 8.6 steals per game. He spent 12 seasons as an assistant coach on the Hilltop before spending the last two seasons as an assistant under Kelvin Sampson at Oklahoma. As a college assistant, his SMU and Oklahoma squads combined for a 213-194 record. The Sooners won the 2003 Big 12 tournament, and the Mustangs won the 1993 Southwest Conference title and earned a postseason NIT bid in 2000. Prior to his first stint at SMU, he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Dallas Kimball High School compiling a 232-42 record and the 1990 state championship. AWARDS: C-USA PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jan. 23 (Bryan Hopkins): Hopkins averaged 20.5 points per game in the two wins, connecting on seven three-pointers, while adding six assists and four steals in wins over East Carolina and Rice. In a 74-70 overtime victory at East Carolina on Jan. 18, he scored eight of his game-high 24 points in the extra session. Hopkins hit four three-pointers in that game, while adding four rebounds and three steals for the Mustangs' first C-USA victory. On Jan. 21, at Moody Coliseum, he helped SMU complete a furious comeback win over Rice with 17 points, including five in the extra session.
