Jennifer Blackman Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week

Nov. 20, 2007

IRVING, TEXAS (SMU)--Jennifer Blackman was named Conference USA's Swimmer of the Week following her outstanding performances at the Art Adamson Invitational last weekend in College Station.

Blackman automatically qualified for the NCAA meet in two individual events and in two relays at Texas A&M. Blackman punched her first ticket in the 200 free, posting a career-best time of 1:46.32, good for second-place in the meet and the second-fastest time in the country. Her second individual qualifying time came in the 100 free as she touched the wall in a personal-best (and third-fastest time in the country) 49.19. She also swam the first leg of the 400 free relay to help the Mustangs earn another automatic qualification in 3:17.97, which is currently the second-fastest time in the country. Blackman then swam the second leg of the 800 free relay, which finished in 7:09.79, almost a full second faster than the NCAA qualifying time and the second-fastest time in the country. In addition, Blackman earned NCAA consideration in the 500 free, touching the wall in 4:47.63, and helped the 200 free relay team qualify for NCAA consideration after finishing the course in 1:31.47.

This is Blackman's first weekly award of the 2007-08 season and the second of her career.
