LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team snapped UALR's winning streak this afternoon when the Mustangs took the 5-2 decision. The Mustangs advance to 10-4 on the season after notching the doubles point and four singles wins.
The Mustangs swept the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Natalia Bubien and Claire Rietsch paired for a 8-2 win over Laetitia Bourgeon and Jenna Hirdle at the No. 1 spot while Jennifer Chay and Pavi Francis commanded a 8-2 win over Rosario Negrete and Hollie Robinson at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3, Monica Neveklovska and Kristen Reid took a 8-5 win over Patricia Cortes and Outi Jarvinen.
Bubien demanded a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jarvinen at the No. 1 spot while Chay also posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over her opponent, Robinson at No. 2. After getting into the swing of things in the first set, Rietsch powered through the second set to post the 7-5, 6-1 win over Bourgeon at the No. 3 position. Georgiana Marta notched a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jordana at the No. 5 spot to tally the Mustangs fourth singles win. Francis was not able to get past Negrete as she took the first set, but dropped the final two, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9. Neveklovska was not able to overturn Cortes as she fell at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-1.
The Mustangs will stay in Arkansas as they will face No. 64 South Alabama tomorrow at 10 a.m. on neutral courts in Little Rock.
