DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 55 SMU women's tennis team fell to No. 39 TCU this afternoon at the Garland Tennis Center, 7-0. The Mustangs are now 8-4 on the season.
SMU dropped the doubles point as there were only matches at No. 1 and No. 2. The Mustangs were without Natalia Bubien and Kristen Reid as they were both nursing nagging injuries. Jennifer Chay and Pavi Francis battled the seventh-ranked doubles duo in the nation in Anna Sydorska and Ana Cetnik at No. 1 doubles. The SMU duo fell, 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, Georgiana Marta paired with Claire Rietsch but the two were unable to over power Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols as they fell, 8-3.
In singles action, Rietsch fell to No. 37 Cetnik at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2 while Marta dropped the decision to Kewa Nichols, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 4 slot. Since no Mustang played No. 6 singles, the match was clinched for TCU after two singles win. Francis forced No. 84 Munch-Soegaard into three sets at No. 3 but was not able to top Munch-Soegaard as Francis fell, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Chay and No. 104 Sydorska battled it out at No. 1 singles but Chay was unable to upend Sydorska as she fell, 6-4, 6-5. Monica Neveklovska was unable to overturn Andrea Morgado at No. 5 singles as she fell, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
SMU will head out on a three-match road trip next as they are scheduled to take on Houston March 11 at 10 a.m. in Houston. They will then head to Little Rock, Arkansas where they will take on UALR on March 16 and South Alabama on March 18.
