DALLAS (SMU)-SMU volleyball (12-13, 4-7 C-USA) lost to the Pirates of East Carolina (12-14, 2-9 C-USA) in five sets (13-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 15-13) Sunday in Minges Coliseum. In the loss, the Mustangs recorded 18 total team blocks, 67 digs, and a .143 hitting percentage.
Against ECU, freshman Dana Powell, freshman Kelli Becerra, and junior Kendra Kahanek both achieved double-doubles. Powell recorded 12 kills and 14 digs, while Kahanek produced 11 kills and 11 block assists, ending with a team-high 5.5 total blocks. Becerra put up another season- and career-high assists performance with 54, and registered 10 digs.
Senior Natalie Peters led the Mustangs in kills with 16, and had six block assists which furthers her ahead as the SMU career block assists leader with 380. Freshman Jessica Oliver also collected six block assists and had nine kills on her way to a .240 hitting efficiency.
The Mustangs come home this next weekend for conference matches against Houston on Friday night T 7:00 P.M. followed by Rice on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
