DALLAS (AP) -- Paul McCoy scored 18 points to lead SMU past Alabama St. 56-51 on Saturday night. Bamba Fall had 12 points and tied a career-high with 12 rebounds while recording four blocks. It was his fourth career double-double as he added 10 points and 11 rebounds in the second half.
SMU (2-1) trailed 40-39 midway through the second half before McCoy scored seven points in a 16-5 run. McCoy hit a 3-pointer and Bamba Fall added a free throw to put the Mustangs ahead 56-46 with 2:18 left.
SMU shot 44.2 percent for the game. McCoy finished 8-of-11 from the field and recorded two steals. Fall was 4-of-5 from the field in the second half after an 0-of-4 opening period. Derek Williams had eight points for SMU and a team-high three steals.
Rashad Provitt scored 13 points and Andrew Hayles added 10 for Alabama St. (0-3), who hit only 9-of-33 shots in the second half.
The Mustangs host Illinois State (3-0) in the championship of the SMU Tip-Off Classic on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. Alabama State faces Houston Baptist at 5 p.m.
