Dallas (SMU)-SMU volleyball (7-7) placed third in the Denver Invitational after their four-set loss (18-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-20) to Denver (10-2) at Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday, September 20. Freshman setter Kelli Becerra recorded a double-double leading the team in assists with 32, as well as digs with 16. Sophomore Kathryn Wilkerson led in kills with 14 and was followed closely by Freshmen Jessica Oliver and Dana Powell who had 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
On her way to earning All-Tournament honors for her performance this past weekend, Senior Natalie Peters collected 1.5 blocks in the match bringing her career total to 418. Peters is now only 26 blocks away from becoming SMU's all-time career leader. Junior Kendra Kahanek also contributed to the blocking effort registering three.
The Denver Invitational concludes non-conference tournament play for the Mustangs in the 2008-09 season. SMU volleyball returns to conference play this Friday, September 26 when they take on the UCF Golden Knights (9-5) in Moody Coliseum.
