DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU volleyball team hit a season-best .276 en route to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) sweep of UT-Arlington at Moody Coliseum on Wednesday. The Mustangs had a balanced attack that saw freshman Dana Powell lead with 12 kills, sophomore Kathryn Wilkerson follow with 11, freshman Jessica Oliver and senior Natalie Peters had nine kills each, and junior Kendra Kahanek had eight finishers. Oliver and Kahanek both hit .500.
The even distribution was directed by freshman Kelli Becerra with 24 assists and senior Stefanie Kons with 22 assists. Powell led the defense with 16 digs for a double-double, freshman Sidney Stewart had 11 digs, and Wilkerson had nine. Kahanek had a team-high four blocks and Kons helped on three stuffs. Peters also had three of SMU's four aces.
The Mustangs have improved their hitting percentage in every match this season. The squad also had season three-set highs for digs (51), kills (50), assists (49), blocks (5.0), and had a total of 50 kills with just 16 attack errors for the match.
The Mustangs host the SMU Radisson Invite at Moody Coliseum this Friday and Saturday. Action begins with four matches on Friday starting at 11 a.m. The Mustangs face Montana on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and then host New Orleans at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Ponies face in-state rival Stephen F. Austin at 3:30 p.m. before the SMU football team hosts Texas State at 7 p.m. at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
