ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) - Four Mustangs recorded at least 10 kills while hitting over .345 as SMU (19-9, 9-5) downed UCF (11,17, 3-12 C-USA) Sunday 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-16), led by Kathryn Wilkerson's 17 kills with a .375 hitting percentage.
The Mustangs hit .353 as a team in the match, committing a four-set, season-low 10 errors in 139 attack attempts. SMU also committed only 10 errors against Houston in a 3-0 win on Oct. 24.
Dana Powell finished with 12 kills and 12 digs for her 19th double-double of the season. Kendra Kahanek just missed her first double-double, posting 10 kills with nine blocks. Freshman Courtney Manning led all attackers with a .542 hitting percentage, recording 14 kills, and added six blocks.
Kelli Becerra recorded her 16th double-double of the season with 51 assists and 10 digs, and Sidney Stewart had a match-high 22 digs, eclipsing 20 for the eighth time this season. Stewart climbed to fourth at SMU with 504 digs this season, becoming just the fourth Mustangs to record 500 digs in a season.
The Mustangs fell behind 13-8 in the first set, but rallied down the stretch to cut the lead to three 20-17. The Knights were able to hold off the late charge by the Mustangs, winning the set on their second set-point attempt to take the victory, 25-23.
SMU never trailed again. The Mustangs started the three sets with runs of 5-0, 5-2 and 5-2, winning the first point of each set, before going on to win each of the three sets for the match victory.
The second set was the one the set the stage for the Mustangs' victory. After losing the first set, SMU exploded with 16 kills, hitting .467 in the 25-12 set win. SMU kept the momentum, hitting .342 for a 25-20 win in the third and .382 for a 25-16 set to close the match in the fourth.
The Mustangs will finish the regular season this week with a pair of matches against Tulsa. SMU will travel to Tulsa, Okla., for the first match on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Mustangs will host Tulsa Saturday at 7 p.m. as they celebrate "Senior Night".
