HOUSTON (SMU) - Following the second day of competition at the Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championship, the SMU women's team remains in first place, while the SMU men's team has moved up to second in their respective competitions. The teams combined to earn eight NCAA B qualifying times Thursday.
SMU had the top two finishers in women's 500-yard freestyle as freshman Nina Rangelova won the event (4:45.76) and fellow newcomer Alice McCall came in second (4:50.92). Both women earned NCAA B qualifying times for their performance.
Junior Therese Svendsen took first in the 200-yard IM, touching the wall 2:00.10, an NCAA B consideration time.
Senior captain Audra Egenolf earned runner-up honors in the three-meter dive with a score of 342.60, just short of winner Lacey Truelove's 344.25.
The women wrapped up Thursday with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Svendsen, Raminta Dvariskyte, Monika Babok and Rangelova clocked in at 3:37.02, an NCAA B qualifying time.
The men earned two NCAA B consideration times in the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Mitchell Thomson won the event with a time of 4:23.53. Junior Blaz Korosec finished fourth clocking in at 4:27.92, just .66 seconds out of third.
Sophomore Mindaugas Sadauskas turned in another strong performance, finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle in an NCAA B time of 19.82. Mindaugas also swam the first leg of the winning 400-yard medley relay as he combined with Tom Cole, David Larsson and Korosec for a time of 3:12.02. The relay earned an NCAA B consideration time.
