TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Quinton Flowers rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns Saturday, helping South Florida defeat SMU 38-14.

USF (4-3, 2-1 American Athletic Conference) also matched its victory total for all of last season. SMU fell to 1-6, 0-3 in conference play.

With leading rusher Marlon Mack sitting out with a hamstring injury, Flowers broke USF's single-game rushing record for a quarterback on his first carry of the second half. Matt Grothe ran 146 yards against Connecticut in 2007, and Flowers nearly matched that with 142 on 13 attempts while building a 17-7 halftime lead.

The sophomore carried 10 more times in the second half to become the eighth player in USF history to top 200 yards rushing.

The Mustangs led 7-3 early on after a Xavier Jones one-yard run in the first quarter. SMU next scoring play came at 7:39 mark of the fourth quarter when Darrel Colbert Jr. connected with Courtland Sutton on a 37-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown pass was the first career TD pass for Colbert Jr. who finished the game 11-of-13 for 120 yards through the air.

SMU is back in action next Saturday, Oct. 31 when the Mustangs return home to face Tulsa. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. CT and the game will air on ESPNews. Tickets are available online at smumustangs.com/tickets or by calling 214-768-4263.
