DALLAS (SMU) - SMU point guard Nic Moore has been named to the Naismith Trophy Men's College Player of the Year Early Season Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.

Moore was the 2014-15 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year after leading the Mustangs to 27-7 record and AAC regular season and tournament titles. He was tabbed to repeat the honor in this year's AAC preseason coaches' poll. Last year, Moore was also an All-America Honorable Mention selection after recording team bests in scoring (14.5) and assists (5.1). In three games this season, Moore is averaging 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

Moore was earlier named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 for the second year in a row by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Moore is the second Mustang named to a national award watch list, as fellow senior Markus Kennedy was named to the 2016 Karl Malone Award Watch List, which recognizes the top power forward in Division I men's college basketball. Both Moore and Kennedy were unanimous preseason All-AAC First-Team selections.

Founded during the 1956-57 season, the Atlanta Tipoff Club is committed to promoting the game of basketball and recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of those who make the game so exciting. The Atlanta Tipoff Club administers the Naismith Award, which has become one of the most prestigious national honors in all of college basketball. Named in honor of Dr. James Naismith, inventor of the game of basketball, the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T recognizes the top Men's College Basketball Players of the Year. The Naismith Trophy was first presented to UCLA's Lew Alcindor (later known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) in 1969.
