Adams and Froling Score Season Highs Despite Falling To TCU Sunday In Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU)— Alicia Froling and McKenzie Adams scored season highs of 20 and 21 points, respectively, as the Mustangs fell at TCU 76-67 on Sunday afternoon. The Mustangs are now 2-1 overall, while TCU improved to 3-0.

Adams carried the Mustangs' offense in the first quarter. Back-to-back three's from Adams helped tie the game at eight a piece early in the first. Adams posted 12 points, shooting 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from the three-point line to open the game. TCU responded by shooting 6-6 from behind the arc in the first quarter.

With SMU trailing TCU, 22-30, Froling added a quick seven points, at the beginning of the second quarter to help bring the Mustangs within six points. TCU's shooting streak continued, as the Horned Frogs didn't miss from behind the arc until halfway through the second quarter. However, SMU would go on an 18-7 run in the last six minutes of the half. Kiara Perry and Kamray Mickens added two quick jumpers and a fast break lay-up by Dai'ja Thomas, assisted from Adams, led the offensive charge late in the second quarter to help bring SMU within three points. The Mustangs trailed 43-46 at the half.

Dai'ja Thomas opened up second half play with a jumper from the elbow, to bring SMU within a point. An offensive surge by TCU opened up the lead to 10 halfway through the third quarter. Adams added two more jumpers late in the third quarter to help bring the Mustangs' deficit to eight.

Froling added six more points in the fourth quarter to finish the game with a season-high 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. It was the junior's third consecutive double-double and the 22nd of her career. Adams also posted a season-high and a game-high 21 points with seven rebounds. Thomas added eight with four blocks, while Perry finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Mustangs return to Moody Coliseum to host Prairie View A&M Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
