STORRS, Conn. (SMU) - Gabrielle Wilkins and McKenzie Adams led the Mustangs with 10 points apiece, but the SMU women's basketball team fell to top-ranked Connecticut, 88-41, at Gampel Pavilion Wednesday night. SMU returns to Moody Coliseum Saturday for its final home game of the season, taking on Houston at 2 p.m. CT. This will be the final home game for head coach and former SMU student-athlete Rhonda Rompola, who has accumulated the most wins (438) as a coach in SMU history.

Adams led SMU (12-15 overall, 7-9 in American Athletic Conference) in the second half, scoring eight points, including two of SMU's three 3-pointers. Wilkins tacked on six in the final 20 minutes, going 3-for-8 from the field. In the second half SMU held UConn (27-0 overall and 16-0 in The American) to 38.2 percent shooting from the field, and 23.1 percent from behind the 3-point arc, but Connecticut continued to extend its lead en route to a 64th straight win and the American Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

SMU led the three-time defending national champions, 6-5, before the Huskies pulled away, finishing the first quarter with a 19-8 lead. UConn went on to take a 50-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.
