DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's tennis team registered four victories against North Texas on the second day of Metroplex Mania Saturday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex, Turpin Stadium & Brookshire Family Pavilion.

All four of the Mustangs wins came in singles play with Ana Perez-Lopez, Dasha Sharapova, Charline Anselmo and Ellie Zogg each recording a victory.

In No. 2 singles, Perez-Lopez won in straight sets against Alexis Thomas, 6-3, 6-3, while Sharapova got back in the win column with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Laura Arciniegas in No. 3 singles play.

Anselmo went back-and-forth with Minying Liang in the No. 4 singles match that went to three sets. With the match tied at 1-1, Anselmo finished strong in third set to get the victory, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. Zogg defeated Ivana Babic, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 7 singles match.

Sarai Monarrez Yesaki fell for the first time this spring with a 7-6, 6-4 loss to North Texas' Maria Kononova in No 1 singles play, while her teammate Haruka Sasaki defeated Macie Elliott 6-4, 6-3 in No. 5 singles play.

After recording wins on day one, Mary Wright and Sara Jamal both loss in straight sets in matches against Saturday. In No. 6 singles play, North Texas' Alexandra Heczey defeated Wright, 7-5, 6-1, while Jamal lost to BYU's Taylah Beckman, 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, SMU dropped all four of its matches to BYU.

Tournament play will resume tomorrow with doubles play at 11:00 A.M.
