DALLAS (SMU) – Freshmen
Sara Jamal and
Charline Anselmo picked up a victory in doubles against North Texas on day three of Metroplex Mania Sunday afternoon.
The Mustangs duo of Jamal and Anselmo tallied a 7-6 victory in No. 4 doubles against North Texas' Minying Liang and Ivana Babic.
In No. 1 doubles,
Ellie Zogg and
Dasha Sharapova faced No. 30 Wendy Zhang and Alison Ho of Rice. Facing their first ranked opponent of the spring, Zogg and Sharapova fell 6-1.
Ana Perez-Lopez and
Sarai Monarrez Yesaki was tied (4-4) late in their No. 2 doubles match against Rice's Lindsey Hodge and Fernada, but were unable to hold off the Owls duo, who ultimately won 6-4.
Macie Elliott and
Mary Wright were paired in No. 3 doubles against Savannah Durkin and Priya Niezgoda of Rice, who defeated the Mustangs duo 6-3.
In singles play, Jamal fell in straight sets, 6-0, 7-6 to North Texas' Ivana Babic in an extra match.
Due to inclement weather for the third consecutive day, play was again moved indoors to the Ann and Brad Brookshire Family Pavilion.
Tournament play concludes tomorrow with doubles play at 11:00 A.M.
