Adams Scores Career-High 32 As SMU Falls To Cincinnati, 67-65

Froling Earns 12th Double-Double Of The Season

Jan. 17, 2017

CINCINNATI (SMU) – McKenzie Adams scored a career-high 32 points as the SMU women's basketball team fell 67-65 at Cincinnati Tuesday night. Her 16 points in the fourth quarter led SMU's rally to bring the Mustangs within two points after a 15 point deficit early in the fourth period.

Trailing 12 points, 52-40, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, SMU embarked on an 8-2 run in the first five minutes of the quarter to cut Cincinnati's lead to nine, 57-48. After a Cincinnati three, Adams drilled her third three-pointer of the night with 4:43 remaining in the game sparking the Mustangs' late game offensive surge and cutting into the Bearcats 60-48 lead. Morgan Bolton attacked the basket to put SMU down five, 62-57, with just one minute remaining. With 25 seconds left, it was Adams again who attacked the lane in transition and scored two points, to cut the Cincinnati lead to three, 65-62.

Cincinnati converted on 1-of-2 free throw attempts down the stretch to extend their lead to four, 66-62. Devri Owens sunk a three from the corner to make it a one-point game. However, the Mustangs' late surge came up short despite outscoring the Bearcats 25-15 in the fourth quarter.

Alicia Froling finished with 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to mark her 12th double-double of the season and the 31st of her career. With the dozen, the junior is now tied for fourth with Janielle Dodds for SMU single season double-doubles. Adams' performance marked her 12th game this season scoring in double figures, the second highest amount on the team only behind Froling's 16 double-figure performances. Adams finished shooting 12-for-21 from the field, 4-for-8 from behind the arc and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.

The Mustangs play at Houston Saturday at 2 p.m., before returning to Moody Coliseum to host No. 19 USF Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
