COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team fell to No. 8 Texas A&M at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on Friday afternoon in College Station. With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 3-1 in dual action this season, while the Aggies improve to 6-1.
Senior
Vicky Cunningham and freshman
Erin Trahan led the Mustang swimmers each posting runner-up performances in their respective events. Cunningham touched second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.89, while Trahan registered a time of 55.31 for second in the 100-yard butterfly.
Other top three performances were turned in by senior
Anna Cheesbrough, who was third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.15, and junior
Matea Samardzic, who finished the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.63 for third.
The Mustangs earned their highest relay placement in the 200-yard freestyle, closing out the day with a time of 1:35.79. The time from
Hannah Rogers, Cunningham, Trahan and
Adrienn Santa was good for fourth place.
Sophomore
Brooke Pospichal led SMU divers with a second-place finish on 1 meter (251.64), and a third-place finish on 3 meter (257.48). Senior
Lauren Lamb also represented the Mustangs finishing fourth on both boards.
Overall, SMU registered 109 total points to the Aggies' 173.
The Mustangs are back in action Feb. 3 when they travel to Denton, Texas, to take on the University of North Texas at the Pohl Recreation Center and PEB Natatorium. On Feb. 4, the Ponies are slated to host a pre-conference time trial event in Southlake, Texas, at 2 p.m. The Feb. 4 event will serve as senior day for the program.
