Tulsa, Okla. (SMU)— The SMU women's basketball team fell to Tulsa, 66-59, Saturday night at the Reynolds Center. Three Mustangs scored in double figures for the ninth time this season, but it wasn't enough for SMU to complete the comeback. With the loss, SMU dropped to 11-10 overall and 2-6 in the American Athletic Conference, while Tulsa improved to 7-14, 3-5 in The American.
Trailing by 14 points, 37-23, after Tulsa scored the first two points of the third quarter, SMU went on a 10-2 run, cutting the deficit to six points, 39-33.
Stephanie Collins led the offensive charge, scoring six of her nine points in the paint for the Mustangs in the third quarter.
Alicia Froling brought the Mustangs within four, 44-40, at the beginning of the fourth quarter. However, Tulsa continued to convert from behind the arc, going 4-for-8 from 3-point range in the fourth quarter. It was a pair of 3's by Tatayana Perez, who finished 4-for-9 from behind the arc, that highlighted an 8-0 run, extending the lead back to 12 for Tulsa, 52-40, with 6:09 left to play.
SMU scored 19 points in the final six minutes, but was unable to retake the lead. Froling finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists, going 4-for-9 from the field.
McKenzie Adams led the Mustangs with 14 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, and had eight rebounds.
Kiara Perry added 10 points with four rebounds and two steals.
Dai'ja Thomas grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and scored eight points.
Both teams finished 23-of-67 from the field, but Tulsa made 9-of-13 from behind the arc, while SMU made just three in 12 attempts.
SMU returns to Moody Coliseum for a two game homestand. The Mustangs host Memphis Tuesday at 7 p.m. and UCF Saturday at 2 p.m.
