FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – Three Mustangs advanced to the round of 32 in the singles main draw Friday on day one of the ITA Regional Championships at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center & Bartzen Varsity Courts.

Charline Anselmo, Liza Buss and Nicole Petchey advanced to the round of 32 in the singles main draw.

In the round of 128, Anselmo defeated Rice's Savannah Durkin, 6-4, 6-3, before earning a 6-2, 7-6 (7) victory against Stephen F. Austin's Darinka Tiboldi in the round of 64.

Buss is the No. 9 seed and had a bye to the round of 64. The Togliatti, Russia, native easily defeated Texas A&M's Eva Paalma, 6-0, 6-2.

Petchey continues her impressive freshman campaign recording two victories to improve to 7-1 in the fall. The Cape Town, South Africa, native first won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Texas State's Ana Perez before recording a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Incarnate Word's Sara Djurdjevic.

Ana Perez-Lopez advanced to the next round after registering a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Abilene Christian's Whitney Williams. However, Perez-Lopez fell to Houston's Lauren Alter, 7-6 (5), 6-3, in the round of 64.

In doubles play, Yesaki and Perez-Lopez paired up and defeated Chelsea Crovetti and Katie Poluta of Texas, 8-6, in the round of 64.

Action on Saturday will begin at 8 a.m., with start time for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday determined later in the tournament. Admission is free for all fans during the tournament. Draws and results will be available at itatennis.com.
