HOUSTON (SMU) – Matea Samardzic,
Erin Trahan and
Felicity Passon each picked up victories in the SMU women's swimming and diving team's loss at American Athletic Conference opponent Houston Friday evening.
Samardzic led the way with a pair of victories in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, both events in which she currently leads The American. The senior was the only swimmer to come in under two minutes with a 1:59.23 in the 200 back, and her time in the 200 IM was 2:04.85. Samardzic also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.58).
Sophomore
Agata Magner was also a top-three finisher in the 200 back, covering the distance in 2:03.21 for third.
Trahan continued her success in butterfly events, winning the 200 distance in a time of 2:01.20, over three seconds faster than her competition. In the 100 distance, the sophomore paced the Mustangs and finished second (56.28).
Passon showed her versatility against the Cougars, earning podium finishes in butterfly, backstroke and freestyle events. The first-year Mustang won the 100 free in 51.24, was second in the 100 back with a season-best 56.22 and came in at 56.89 for third in the 100 fly.
Additional top-three finishes in the 210-90 loss were turned in by
El Yellin and
Lauren Thompson in the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyles, respectively, and
Eva Gliozeryte in the 50-yard freestyle.
Freshman
Katie Crown led the Mustang divers, finishing third on both 1 meter (257.17) and 3 meter (240.75).
