DALLAS (SMU)
- In a game that was decided in the closing moments of the fourth quarter, TCU narrowly edged SMU on Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum, 64-58.

The game was back-and-forth throughout with both teams trading baskets and unable to get separation from the other. The largest lead of the game was only eight, and it was quickly trimmed back down to three points in 33 seconds by the Mustangs.

"It's always disappointing to not come away with the win," head coach Travis Mays said. "With how hard we competed and the effort from (Kiara Perry) and her teammates tonight, I see a lot of positives we can take into practice and take into Oklahoma on Friday."

Senior Kiara Perry was the engine for the Mustang offense, leading the way with 23 points on very efficient 7-of-15 shooting. Her three 3-point baskets was a career high. Perry was also active under the basket, grabbing nine rebounds to lead the Mustangs in that category as well.

"I knew what she's capable of," Mays said. "She's capable of this every night because of how hard she works in practice. I'm waiting as a coach to see it come together on the floor. McKenzie Adams has been extremely consistent. (Perry) has been extremely consistent, along with Dai'ja (Thomas). I want to see it come together in a game. When it does, they'll get ahold of something that will propel us to where we want to be throughout the season."

Senior McKenzie Adams followed up her career-performance in the season opener with another very effective night, dropping in the team's second-highest point total at 15.

In the post, junior Dai'ja Thomas was her normal solid, dependable presence for the Mustangs. The Dallas native tied Perry's rebound total with nine while adding eight points. Klara Bradshaw was also a forced down low, sending back a career-high five shots.

"We came out to give our best 40 minutes," Mays said. "We gave up one too many 3s. Down the stretch, if we make a couple free throws, I think we have a different outcome. Those things were the difference in the game."

SMU is on the road for the first time this season on Friday, traveling to No. 21 Oklahoma for a 7 p.m. showdown.
