NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team had its six-match winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon falling on the road to Oklahoma, 7-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Mustangs (6-1) opened the season with six consecutive home victories, but fell short against the Sooners. The two programs met for just the seventh time with Oklahoma now holding a 6-1 advantage. SMU recorded its first victory in the series last season with a 4-3 win at home.

Oklahoma (4-2) won the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Malene Stripp and Julie Byrne defeated Liza Buss and Dasha Sharapova, 6-3, in the No. 1 slot. Serena Nash and Ann Selim then clinched the point for the Sooners with a 6-4 win against Mary Wright and Macie Elliott in the No. 3 match.

In singles, Byrne pushed Oklahoma's lead to 2-0, defeating Wright, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 5 slot. Nash then defeated Sharapova, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 4 slot to give the Sooners a 3-0 lead. In No. 6 singles, Selim won in straight sets against Elliott, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the match. In the No. 1 match, Buss fell for the first time this season after dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision to No. 16 Lily Miyazaki.

SMU plays at No. 14 Texas A&M on Friday before beginning a ten-match homestand with a doubleheader against Nevada and UT Permian Basin on Sunday, Feb. 26. The home stretch includes UCF (March 4), Arizona (March 5), Wichita State (March 10), Georgia State (March 13), Cincinnati (March 14), Kansas State (March 18), Louisiana Tech (March 26) and UT Arlington (April 1).
