Feb. 25, 2017

ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU)— The SMU women's basketball team fell to UCF, 63-37, Saturday afternoon. Alicia Froling led the Mustangs with 17 points and three rebounds; however, SMU fell to 15-13 overall and 6-9 in American Athletic Conference play while the Knights improved to 19-9 and 9-6 AAC.

SMU outscored UCF 19-13 in the third quarter, led by Froling's eight points in six minutes of play. The Mustangs started the period on an 8-3 run over the first 2:48 of the period, cutting the deficit to 19. SMU ended the quarter on a 4-0 run as Kiara Perry knocked down a 12-foot jumper with 55 seconds left in the quarter. Froling converted on an offensive rebound with 13 seconds remaining in the period to cut the deficit to 18, 50-32, the lowest of the second half.

However, the Knights' efficient offense proved to be too much for the Mustangs. UCF shot 52.0 percent (26-for-50) from the field and 54.5 percent (6-for-11) from the three-point line for the game. While the Mustangs finished 13-of-42 from the field (31.0 percent) and converted on just one of 13 three-point attempts.
