ORLANDO, Florida (SMU) – The SMU women's golf team shot a 3-over 291 in the second round of the UCF Challenge to bring its two-round total to 7-over 583, placing them 15th overall with one round to play.
"I'm seeing a lot of good things for our first tournament of the season," Head coach
Jeanne Sutherland said. "There is room for improvement, so we need to be patient and keep doing what we're doing and start taking better advantage of our opportunities. Overall, I'm proud of everyone's attitude."
Senior
Lindsey McCurdy finished the day at 1-under 71 with a pair of birdies and unblemished front nine to bring her two-round total to 3-under 141. The 36-hole total places her 11th on the individual leaderboard, up two spots from Sunday's first round.
Freshman
Kenzie Wright climbed 10 spots to finish the day tied for 11th as well, carding a 2-under 70 to go 3-under for the tournament thus far. Wright opened the day with a bogey on No. 14, but registered three birdies, including a pair in her last four holes, to reach 2-under for the day.
"Lindsey and Kenzie had as good a ball-striking round as they could have today, and they putted well," Sutherland added.
Sophomore
Brigitte Dunne improved by four strokes from yesterday's round, finishing 2-over 74 on the second 18 holes, while freshman
Ana Paula Ramirez also bettered her round score as well, posting a 4-over 76.
Senior
Katie Page posted a 1-over 73 for the Mustangs yesterday, but was unable to compete today. Sutherland hopes to have her back for competition tomorrow after her first round performance.
Faith Summers, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 30th overall at 1-over 145.
Mississippi State (-16) rose four spots on the team leaderboard after a 13-under 275 to top the field after round two. No. 14 Miami sits at 9-under, climbing seven spots to second, and No. 20 UCF rounds out the top three at 8-under. Individually, Mississippi State's Chieh Jessica Pang leads the field at -13.
The final round of play begins at 8 a.m. CT Tuesday and has the Mustangs paired with Tulane (+3) and East Carolina (+6).
