DALLAS (SMU) – After a close 4-3 victory against Georgia State on Monday, the SMU women's tennis team responded with a 6-1 win against Cincinnati Tuesday evening at Turpin Stadium.
 
The Mustangs swept the doubles winning all three matches to take the point. Senior duo Dasha Sharapova and Mary Wright defeated Antonella Bramato and Caroline Morton, 6-2 on court three for the first win. In No. 2 doubles, Liza Buss and Macie Elliott won 6-4 against Harley Hutchison and Ali Miller. Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and Ana Perez-Lopez moved up to No. 1 singles and did not disappoint as the pair won 6-3 against Lauren Bellinger and Kelly Poggensee-Wei.

In singles play, SMU extended its lead to 2-0 after Buss recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 1 slot against Bellinger. However, the Bearcats got on the board and cut the lead to one (2-1) after Morton defeated Perez-Lopez, 6-4, 6-2.

In No. 6 singles, Wright came back from 5-0 deficit to win the first set, 7-5. The senior then took the second set, 6-4 to give the Mustangs a 3-1 lead. Sharapova clinched the team victory for the Mustangs in No. 3 singles with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Bramato, which gave her 13 wins in dual action this season.

Charline Anselmo picked up her sixth win playing in the No. 5 slot, while Monarrez Yesaki played in the No. 2 position and claimed her ninth win in duals this season. Anselmo dropped the first set 7-6 (9-8), but won the second set 6-2 before winning the tie-breaker 1-0 (10-5). Monarrez Yesaki started slow dropping the first set, 6-3, but the freshman finished strong taking the next two sets, 6-3, 6-1.  

SMU improved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Cincinnati fell to 8-5 and 0-1 in The American. It was the first-ever meeting between the schools.

The Mustangs return to the court Saturday to host Kansas State with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
